How I work

My understanding of the Recovered Life has been shaped by multiple factors:

  • my personal experience of recovery from addiction

  • my formal education in counseling and pastoral care

  • my work in the criminal justice system, adult education, front-line addiction treatment, and overseeing the development of treatment policy at the national level

  • my training as a coach and continuing education in advanced skills

  • my many interactions with individuals who feel trapped by the difficult circumstances of their lives

As a result, my approach doesn’t focus on a single ideology or methodology, but reflects a blended approach that grounds and gives shape to my work while allowing me to be responsive to the individual wants and needs of my clients.

My clients set the agenda and I work alongside them, offering support in the key areas that I have found to be significant in our efforts to create and sustain meaningful change:

  • The ability to see our circumstances and ourselves clearly.

  • The ability to accept what cannot be altered or controlled.

  • The ability to fully own what belongs to us: our actions, beliefs, and attitudes, and to let go of what doesn't.

  • The willingness to take risks.

  • Living in authentic connection – with ourselves, with others, and with the Divine.

Above the Clouds
Lianne's compassionate style of support (laced with reality and humor) empowered me to examine my own strengths and resources. She helped me have faith in myself.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Diane Strangis, Durham, NC
