Coaching for the Recovered Life
Writing your Resilience Story
Hello Friends –
As we move through this slightly strange season of transitioning from full-on pandemic to vaccinations and easing of restrictions, I’ve felt the urge to write about my experience over the past year and a bit. In part, so I remember this once-in-a-lifetime (!!) event. And in part to consciously examine what I’ve learned and how I’ve changed.
What I’ve ended up with is a memoir that also serves as a testimony to resilience.
It’s been a rich experience for me, so naturally I thought of you. Which inspired me to pull together a course on Writing your Resilience Story.
Just to be clear, no one has to write about the pandemic – I get that we may be burnt out on that topic. But you can. Or you can write about another time in your life when things were hard, and you reached out for help and made it through. Or reached inward and discovered strength you didn’t know you had. Or reached upward and deepened your connection with God. Or all three!
So here’s what Writing your Resilience Story looks like:
Four weekly Zoom sessions. At each session we’ll focus on one aspect of our experience:
-
What it was like when things were hard
-
What happened to get me going in a more positive direction
-
What it’s like now
-
How I envision using (or refining) my resilience skills in the future
I’ll provide writing prompts for each of these topics and we’ll work through them individually and together in class. You’ll also have the opportunity to share some of your writing out loud (this is strictly voluntary).
Between weekly Zoom sessions I’ll offer a one-hour “drop-in” session on Zoom where we can go over things you’re questioning or bounce your ideas off me (and whoever else may have dropped in).
Also between sessions, you’ll be expected to WRITE. There’s no word requirement, but I want you to practice writing every day. The only expectation is for you to have a draft of your writing on the week’s topic finished before the next topic is introduced. Which means you have a week to get this done.
Once the four sessions are over you’ll have two weeks to edit your complete draft before we meet again to share our experiences of writing our stories and the effect the process had on us. And to celebrate our accomplishments.
Before we begin I’ll send out some preliminary work I want you to complete before the first session. Doing so will help tremendously in establishing a framework for your story.
I’m charging for this course on a “pay what you want” basis with the options being $50, $75, or $100 (USD and CAD accepted at par).
I’m also limiting the number of participants to eight so I can provide the optimum level of support, feedback, and validation.
The dates of the course are as follows:
Wednesday, June 30, 2021
Wednesday, July 7, 2021
Wednesday, July 14, 2021
Wednesday, July 21, 2021
(two week break)
Wednesday, August 4, 2021
6:30 – 8:30 PM
Story-writing is such a powerful form of expression and writing within a supportive, caring group is particularly powerful (and fun!). You have a story within you just waiting to be given a voice.
I’d love to share in the experience of writing your resilience story this summer.
Peace and grace,
Lianne
